Free Entertainment

The Sacre Cour in Paris is one of my favorite churches in the world. I love its location on a hilltop and the view once you climb up the million steps to the church itself.
Even on a foggy day, it's wonderful to look out over Paris.

More than the view, I love the people watching. There's always something exciting going on on the steps of the Sacre Cour.

I can't imagine waking up one day and thinking to myself, "I think I'll paint myself gold and wear that stunning outfit that matches the paint, so that I can stand by some steps and pose for pictures." That is exactly what this lady did.

These guys were real treat - they attracted quite a large audience of people. They performed a variety of interpretive dances, including a dance with a crystal ball that was quite phenomenal. To avoid payment and crowds, we watched the whole show with a view of their back ends.

Not only did they have great dances in their partnership, but they also did a few solo numbers. I was a big fan of this move, though I look like a total idiot when I try to demonstrate it myself. That's what photos are for!

Red Carpet Evening

Our school's talent show took place awhile ago, but I'm just now getting around to posting about the spectacular evening.


It started with a walk down the red carpet. Krista and I posed for photographs as we walked through the school towards the theater.

The CAS Talent Show was sponsored by BMW, Mini Cooper, Diesel, and United Colors of Benetton, to name a few. That is a BMW and a Mini Cooper on our soccer field, brought in just for the event. (Side note: they were still there Monday morning - it was pretty remarkable to walk into school on a work day and see sports cars on the school lawn)

Photographs of the evening's talent were posted around the gym. The kids looked so glamourous in their photos - it was a great way to get the audience psyched for the evening's entertainment.
I have never seen so much talent at a school talent show before. The kids did an amazing job - there was dancing, there was singing and there was a yoyo routine set to techno music. My favorite part about the yoyo routine was the wrist sweatbands - note the marijuana leaves. Nobody else seemed to think that was strange.

Stephanie lit up the stage with her awesome Poi routine - it's not just our students (or America) that have talent!

The smashing finale was a group of 6 teachers who spent a great deal of time designing costumes and choreographing 2 dances - "Mamma Mia" and "Dancing Queen". The Abba medley was a huge hit, accompanied by a Powerpoint with the lyrics so the audience could sing along.

As if that wasn't enough excitement, additional teachers joined the crew on stage for the last part of "Dancing Queen". I was one of them! Note me in the background, totally not in sync with everyone else. I was having a blast.

Wait! There's more! An enormous surprise! Here comes the Administration - from left to right - Tony (Lower School Principal), Mark (Upper School Principal) and Allen (Director). They were a huge hit.

No star-studded event would be complete without a superb meal. Donations from various restaurants, including a delightful sushi restaurant, made up a buffet. In true Moroccan style, people crowded the tables and grabbed at the food. Suckers like me who waited in line didn't get any sushi. While shoving people out of the way and eating, we were also treated to a fashion show by high school students modeling the latest Zara line. Not too bad for a school fundraiser, eh?
