December 29th is an awful day to have a birthday. Most people are on vacation, so celebrating with friends is out of the picture. In addition, our family tends to travel from one place to another on the 29th (we've gotten stuck at mountain passes, are on the airplane, etc.) This is a plight my brother Pat has quietly (well, not too quietly) suffered through the past 21 years.
So for his 21st birthday, we decided to make it real special for him. We started off in Room 312 at the Holiday Inn Nairobi with this awesome spread of hors d'oeuvres - cheese & crackers, salami, breadsticks, and Pat's first beer! :)

Luckily, the Las Vegas Casino in Nairobi was right across the street. While Katie, Mom, and I poured tokens into the slot machines (KT was the biggest winner of the night), Pat and Mike hung out at the card tables playing BlackJack.
After a short break to eat some Thai food, we went back to the casino for more good times. At the end of our evening, casino security sent us home in their car. It was fantastic!
On the flight home, Pat received a bottle of champagne and his birthday was announced throughout the cabin right before landing. I guess December 29th isn't such a bad day for a birthday after all!
